West High Students Honored for Artistic Excellence at Prestigious Springville Art Show

Three West High School students were recognized for their exceptional work in visual arts at the 53rd Annual Utah All-State High School Art Show, held at the Springville Museum of Art—widely considered the most competitive and respected high school art exhibition in the state.

Abram Masih , a senior, earned two of the show’s highest honors: a Jurors’ Choice Award and the Lyon Arts Scholarship for his oil painting titled Identical Stripes . The piece, which features a self-portrait alongside a tiger, explores themes of identity and resilience. In a feature article published by The Utah Review , Masih explained that the work reflects his desire to “mask insecurities from my upbringing” while learning to accept himself. Beyah Delfin , another West High student, was also honored with a 2nd Congressional District Honorable Mention for her piece The Birth of an American Dream . Her work was selected by district judges for its vision and execution, earning a place among the state’s most compelling student pieces.

All three students were invited to attend an awards ceremony on February 1 at the Springville Museum of Art, followed by Capitol Day on February 11, where select winners were recognized by Lt. Governor Deidre M. Henderson and introduced to the Utah State Legislature.

The Springville Art Show features the top student artists in Utah and is known for launching many young creatives toward college scholarships and professional opportunities in the arts. This year’s exhibition drew hundreds of submissions, with only a select few chosen for display and awards.

West High School art teacher Evan Smith expressed pride in his students’ accomplishments. “These awards are a reflection not just of individual talent but of the dedication and thoughtfulness these students bring to their work,” he said.
